Leavin’ on a Jet Pack

It was Riaz’s 40th birthday on Thursday.  That’s a big one.  We are due for a mid-life crisis with a silly car and a bad haircut or something.  To try to hold off the inevitable, I decided to give Riaz a little fun for his birthday.  And what is more fun than jet packs?  Turns out … not a whole lot.

I made the reservation about 2 months ago, booked us a hotel for some adult time away from the kids and got a sitter to stay overnight.  We were all set!  Riaz only knew that we were going away for the night, I didn’t tell him about the activity I had planned until we pulled into the parking lot.  He was ecstatic.

Riaz had a short training session, we got picked up by a little Zodiak boat (which was exactly like the boat my dad had when I was a kid.  Whoa, nostalgia!) and about 10 minutes later we were out on a pontoon waiting for Riaz’s turn to fly.

Straight out of the gate, Riaz was a natural!

Even the guys on the boat were impressed with the air he was catching.

He seriously looked like he was having so much fun and I was beaming seeing the huge grin on his face every time he passed by the pontoon.

After the jet packs, we went up to the hotel in Huntington Beach, ate a really nice dinner and then slept in until 10!  It was a perfect birthday weekend (if I do say so myself).

Happy 40th Riaz!  Time for you to start planning my birthday!
